Why the whole path matters

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises consumers to clean the dryer vent, exhaust duct, and lint screen/filter periodically to help prevent dryer fires. CPSC research also notes that lint can accumulate inside the dryer and ducting even when the lint screen is cleaned after each use.

Create a record, not just a reminder

Save the dryer’s manual and note the last professional service or vent cleaning. If clothes are taking longer to dry, if the exterior vent does not appear to exhaust normally, or if you are unsure how to access the duct, stop and consult a qualified service professional.
